Organic doesn't always = better

Well my friends the above is the truth! Let me tell you a story that beings with pure excitement and ends with shear devastation!

It all begins with my typical shopping trip to Target during lunch to pick up dinner for the night. While there I know I needed to grab a few odds and ends and while making my way to the freezer section to get the stuff I needed for my smoothies I saw Mac n' Cheese......mmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I had an immediate need to devour Mac n' Cheese for lunch.

Now since I am on this journey I knew I couldn't do just the regular Mac n' Cheese so I ventrued over to the boxed dinner isle (dangerous for me!) and scoped out my options:
  1. Whole Grain
  2. Veggie
  3. Shapes
  4. Spirals
  5. Regular
  6. Organic
I was immediatly able to cross of Shapes (John's fav), Spirals (my fav) and regular (a classic). Which left me with:
  1. Veggie
  2. Whole Grain
  3. Organic
You know try to stay healthy....ier......

I have had the Whole Grain before and found it rather enjoyable however something was drawing me to the Organic so it was what I landed on.

Fast-forward through the rest of the trip, taking the dog for a walk and the cooking of the noodles.........STOPPPPPP!!! Ookkkk now we are to the mixing of the additions. It is at this point in my lunch time creation that I realize the box 'flavor' is Cheddar and not Original - CRAP! I decided to give it good faith and forge on and that I did.

Let me tell you, my "forging" was R-O-U-G-H I felt as though I was swallowing tasteless noodles with some liquid in it - not appetizing! So needless to say I am very happy I only purchased one box and was able to toss the rest and enjoy a yummy chicken spinach salad for the rest of lunch.

Moral of the story you may ask? Just because it's organic doesn't mean it's yummy!

What about you? Have you ever cooked/ate something you were excited for but it turned out to be a let down?

Tool Time

Well another summer has come and past in lighting quick speed, as always. This summer had it's ups and downs as any did however I am still sad to see it leave yet am happy to welcome fall with arms wide open. As I mentioned before I love fall mainly for football, college specifically. Another reason why I love fall you ask? Well it is because I get to wear my favorite outfit of all time......SWEATSHIRTS AND JEANS!!!

Well I guess reminiscing on what I failed to do this summer is not what I'm in the mood for so let's talk about the last weekend of the summer....Labor Day! This was the first weekend where I was able to go home (being my parents house) for the first time since we have moved to Indiana. Yes I have seen them (dad's road trip, funeral, etc.) however nothing can compare to being in your own house and going to your old favorite hot-spots.

We weren't able to leave until Saturday because I had to work the Saturday shift this week due to all the football games we are going to in September. Anywho, when we left it was sunny and HOT HOT HOT and it was that way the entire 4 hour drive back home to C-Town. We listened to football games on and off when we were able to pick up the signal on the radio and all seemed to be going well. That was until we got to the 'rents house and realized that both the games we had been listenting to (and had lost signal of the last hour of the trip) were on rain delays and the stadiums were evacuated due to lightning :-0. Both the Notre Dame game in South Bend (where we live) and the U of M game were taking hours upon hours....literally. So we watched football until 10pm when they were finally over!

We did not realize that we were signing up for a hard-labor weekend when we went to C-Town. My dad has recently decided that now is the perfect time to have a mid-life crisis and it seems every time I see my parents now they have some new surprise they want to show me. First it was a brand new sports car.

2011 Dodge Challenger - Burnt Orange....love it!

And this weekend they decided to throw this one on me:

60' LED 3-D TV- heavenly!!!

Now the nice new wood you see there for the built in was not there when we first arrived. Little did John and I know we would be spending the majority of the weekend helping my mom, dad, and baby sister Bailey build this entertainment center. It was a fun family project but it was not without it's challenges.

We started off by borrowing a family member's SUV (thanks Aunt Roxie!) to go pick up the 3/4 boards we would need....well of course the hardwood store didn't have what we needed so we had to head to the next town over which is about 20 minutes and hope they had it there (no worries they did! Obviously :-) ).

At this point the concept had been explained to me multiple times however I was not able to visualize what it was and how this board was going to hold up the TV. I mean come on it's a big @$$ TV folks! So I was a little skeptical and 2nd guessing everything. But as the picture shows it all worked out.

Thankfully John was there to help, seeing as I come from a family of 3 daughters none of us are really handy with the building and tool's aspect of life. Now we are all self-proclaimed tom-boys, always have been and always will be however building is too "boy" you could say. My loving John was right there and willing to help with all, I am so lucky to have him and look forward to what our life has in store, but that's a whole other story.

John and my dad did a great job (mostly my dad because, well let's be honest John isn't the best with power tools either) and were able to finish most of the project before we had to leave on Monday afternoon. We were able to all put nail the board on and officially mount the wall.....they were able to install the mount however not put the TV on till after we left.

All-in-all for having been sick for the days prior to going home I was rather happy with how the weekend turned out. I feel very blessed that I have a great family who I can go home to and just relax. I am also blessed that my family and John get along as well as they do, he is already a part of the family even if it isn't official yet.

So I leave you with this question as we part tonight:

How did you spend your Labor Day weekend? What were the highlights of it?

Home for the weekend

Good afternoon friends! Just wanted to give you a heads up I'll be MIA from my blog for the next couple of days. John, myself and the pup are headed back to MI for the long weekend. We are all looking forward to time spent with my family and friends back home. Brock is especially excited to frolic around with Divout my parents little Shorkie (I'll try and snap some pictures she's precious!)

Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!!!!

Well since summer is (sadly) coming to a close that means fall is slowly descending upon us. Unless of course you live in Michiania (yup folks its a real place encompassing northwestern Indiana and south western Michigan) where we are in heat warning indexes and highest temp but that is neither here nor there.

The welcoming of fall means only 1 thing......SPARTAN FOOTBALL IS MAKING ITS RETURN!!!!!! And yes it all begins tonight with a 7:30pm kick off time at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. Sadly even though John and I are season ticket holders we are not going to be attending this game but you'll be able to find us next Saturday with Strongbow's in our hands and green and white flowing through us.

In honor of the start of the season, below are some of my favorite tailgating pictures from the past few years.

High School friends Cori, Heather, Aaron, myself and Amanda
Todd (John's college roommate) on the left, myself and John.
Beautiful Spartan Stadium

College rommie Natalie with cardboard Sparty!
Custom Cornhole boards, thanks Dad!

I can not wait until we are able to rejoin all of our friends in East Lansing at our infamous parking/tailgating spot right on campus about a 5-minute walk from the towering stadium. Where we can hear the band as they enter the through the tunnel and begin their pre-game show. We can hear and join in on the chants and chear's as the college students walk by on their way to the tennis court's for their own massive tailgate. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about all of this and the excitement and love I have in my heart for East Lansing and MSU (yes I understand that is somewhat cheesy but I do not care!). Next Saturday and the Florida Atlantic game can not come soon enough!

College football, specifically MSU football is what I love about fall. It takes me back to my days of college and makes me feel like I am part of something big and I love that feeling. So I leave you with this question:

What is it that you love about fall and why?

Sick in September?!

Really? Who gets a cold or sinus infection or whatever the heck I have in the SUMMER! Well I guess I do because it's 9:30 on a Thursday and I am offically taking up the role of couch potatoe for the rest of the day. Yup little kids get snow days or fog delays and us real-world working folk only can look forward to the random sick day. And let's be honest with ourselves no one ever looks forward to getting sick! Yet here I am home after going to work for less than 20 minutes and being told I'm better off at home. So I have embraced my jammies and am ready to sleep this off and jump back on the horse tomorrow!

No make-up and a beautiful face....mmm...right....

So you all enjoy your day's and I'm going to try and rest up!

Runner? Nope not I

OH BOY....it's been a hectic few days! After the endless (oh, ok not really) debates  between which gym to join I made my decision and purchased my membership!! I'll accept internet high-fives and pat's on the back.....aww shucks thanks guys! Anywho I ran there during my lunch break on Monday and got a tour saw the class schedule and really liked the staff so it reassured my choice.....that is until I walked into the weight area.....dun dun dunnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!! I felt SOOOOO out of place and by that I mean that I am a small (short) little (fat) girl who is trying to lose weight and transform my body and who are there while on my tour? None other than MEAT HEADS!!!!! Well for those who don't know me personally and just follow I am NO meat head I am almost the exact opposite. That was the only hesitation I had and I was reassured that during "normal" hours you see the whole range of the spectrum of people who are trying to get in a workout as well...phew that is a relief!

Even though I got my membership on Monday I didn't get the chance to go until tonight. I've had some weird sinus congestion/infection/just don't feel good. I still don't feel the best but I made myself go! I got on the treadmill and walked/ran for 1 mile **Note mile's ran tracker on the right side towards the bottom** I accidentally turned the treadmill off after being on it for 10 minutes so I probably did more like 1.5 miles with the entire 30 minutes on there, but oh well!

The one thing that I took away from my cardio workout today was that I AM SO OUT OF SHAPE! Like wow! I have never been a runner I always use to hate it but I want to become a runner. However, I am not sure the correct way to go about it. Are there any good ways to go from not running in years to being able to run? I mean it has to be possible from all the success stories I see/hear they never ran and are now running marathon's and races. And as ambitious and out there it may be I want to work towards that! Maybe not full marathons (not for a year or two) but like a 5k or a 10k or something to push myself to see if I can do it. Well I guess we'll see where my workouts go the next month or so and take it from there.

So over the past few day's I've also been trying different recipes I have been finding on other blogs and putting them to use and also just trying different things. Here are some of my creations:

Turkey sandwich on wheat bagel thin with spinach...yum!

Fresh made salsa with organic chips...best snack ever!

Over the past few day's I've also made some fun purchases and received some delayed birthday gifts. As any girl knows you always need new stylish clothes for the gym so I picked up a few new shirts today at Target. It may be cheap but their athletic like (by Champs I think) but I love it! I have a bunch of different items from their line and will continue to build my collection as time goes on.

For any who don't know I am a die-hard Michigan State Spartan fan! I am a proud alumni of MSU and still support them every year with season tickets. Thankfully we are only about 2 hours from East Lansing so we are able to attend again this year. I always like to get new gear for the new tailgate season and this year was no different. I found a collegiate line at Old Navy and picked up these items for the season:

Great fall shirt as well as potential workout shirt

It is a men's sweatshirt however I do like mine baggier

The final item I received was my Thirty-One items! Yay!!!! I have already put the thermal lunch tote to use. I use it daily for my snacks and lunch when I'm going to work. I love love love it! I have yet to be able to use my apron but it is also tres cute. I am very happy with both of the purchases and think they were the best birthday gift I have got myself in a long time.

Perfect size for all my snacks and lunch!

Well that is all for right now I am going to call it an early night and hope that I can kick whatever is making me feel icky! Sweet dreams everyone!
